Behind the Scenes at the Worksite

Go behind the scenes of a four-year worksite...

Learn the story of the museum and discover over two centuries of history behind a building listed as a Historical Monument.

On Sunday, August 25, 2019, Paris will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its liberation. For the occasion, the Museum of the Liberation of Paris – General Leclerc Museum – Jean Moulin Museum, which was located above the Montparnasse train station, will be inaugurated at a new and more easily accessible site. Rehabilitation of the two pavilions built by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux in the eighteenth century was launched in 2015 by the City of Paris to house the museum.
Renovation of a historical building is a complex operation. The construction of a new presentation required lengthy work supported by the museum’s scientific advisors. In this exhibition, project participants tell about the design, scientific choices and decisions made with respect to the architecture and the scenographic layout. Restoration and conservation professionals who were associated to the project take visitors behind the scenes of the worksite to the collections, storage areas, workshops and exhibition areas.
